Funds raised will be used to purchase sewing machines, for those in need. Open until at least August.

In an effort to combat poverty and promote self-sufficiency among women in rural India, a large-scale sewing machine donation drive has successfully distributed over 5,000 sewing machines across several states, including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Rajasthan. This initiative was led by a consortium of NGOs, including Self-Reliant Women India and Global Aid Network, with financial backing from international development agencies.

The project targeted women in some of the most impoverished villages, where economic opportunities are limited, and unemployment rates are high. Each recipient was carefully selected based on need and the potential impact the machine could have on her family’s livelihood. Alongside the donation, the program also provided recipients with basic training in sewing and tailoring, enabling them to start producing garments, household items, and handicrafts for sale in local and regional markets.

The initiative is expected to create a ripple effect, not only improving the lives of the women directly involved but also stimulating local economies by increasing the availability of affordable, locally-made goods.
